Henderson has Weapons to Protect

Mario Henderson is used to big-time football.

As a former Florida State Seminole he is well versed in facing top-flight competition. Heading into his third year in the NFL, Henderson enters camp as the likely starting left tackle for the Oakland Raiders.

In 2008 Henderson started five games, including the last three. In those final three games he did not allow a single sack, a stat that the oft-maligned Raiders’ O-line would like to see a lot more of.

He also has something that some recent Raiders teams haven't had: Big-time weapons to protect. Quarterback JaMarcus Russell, running back Darren McFadden, rookie wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey and emerging tight end Zach Miller make up what could be the best offense the team has had since its 2002 Super Bowl season.

"(Russell and McFadden) are building a chemistry off the field as well as on it," Henderson said. "The fact that they're getting better will make the rest of the O-line better."

With the coaching situation finally settled in Oakland, things appear to be looking up for the recently downtrodden franchise. It's been a long search for a left tackle able to adequately play the role. If last year's play was any indication, they may have found their man.
